The D.C.M. awarded London Gazette 5.12.1918 (Sheffield) 5th battalion.
Citation reads.
‘For conspicuous gallantry in the capture of hostile trenches, when the success of his party was largely due to his great courage and effective use of the bayonet. The party was held up by bombers, but he rushed forward, killing two and cleared the path of the trenches which was giving trouble. Throughout he set a fine example of daring and determination.

M.M. awarded London Gazette 29.8.1918, this was probably for the March offensive including operations at Villers Bretonneux on 24-28 April 1918. To class Z 6.2.1919.

Alfred a native of Sheffield his M.I.C. card shows only entitled to a War and Victory.

NOTE the Victory medal is a 1960s type of unofficial engraving but this is still a nice and rare combination.
A note with the group states, ex Donald Hall collection. We have attempted no further research or searched the War Diaries.
