Born Poplar, London, 5.6.1876 trade a collier. Attested 1.11.1905 and served until pensioned 30.11.1920. Served from 28.3.1914 to 14.3.1917 on H.M.S. Bellona a scout cruiser, serving with the 1st battle squadron and was present but did not take part in the Battle of Jutland. Later serving with H.M.S. Cumberland on convoy duties. LS & GC 7.2.1919 H.M.S. Cumberland entitled to a 1914-15 trio.
